probably more than you've ever wanted
to know about rtp-tv and our online services

:what is rtp-tv?

rtp-tv is the first fully online commercial tv station in north carolina and quite probably the southeast.

just like a regular tv station, we broadcast television shows, except that our shows are viewable by almost
anyone
with an internet connection and can be viewed at any time.

we do broadcast our programs over the airwaves from time to time, using airtime with our media friends at Fox50 in Durham, North Carolina.

:how did it start?

rtp-tv was started by one of the co-founders of the popular triangle techjournal business newspaper in 2001.

originally started as an offshoot of the techjournal website, it was later developed into an independent entity and now boasts viewers in over 75 countries.

:what is its focus?

since it is located in the research triangle park (rtp) area of north carolina, rtp-tv focuses on high tech, biotech, and business content.

we cater to the hardworking c-level professional who wants to learn the latest in business and tech news.  as you can see by our viewership (right) many of the fortune 500 companies are represented in our audience.

:who sponsors rtp-tv?

current and past sponsors of shows appearing on rtp-tv include:  IBM Lifesciences, Zen Bio, WireSnap (celito), Bronto, Hosted Solutions, Maverick Marketing, BCBS of NC, U.S.Trust, Touchstone Energy,  Z Promotion and Design, Intersouth Partners, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, iLoft Partners, and more.

:do you receive any government support?

actually, the opposite is true -- we have actually been told in no uncertain terms that we will receive no cooperation at all from certain state-funded groups.

despite repeated attempts to partner with them in promoting north carolina as a good place to do business, we have not received any level of support from the state of north carolina or any of its agencies or government created non-profits.  however, these same organizations purchase advertisements in expensive out of state magazines, so we're somewhat miffed.

however, we should point out that we have received some substantial help in getting stories from the major universities in the state including duke, unc, and ncsu as well as other organizations such as the c.e.d., the apex chamber of commerce, the morrisville chamber of commerce, and other smaller groups.

:what is the traffic?

traffic on rtp-tv varies, but the station has had as many as 6,800 visitors in one day and as many as 20,000 visits in one month.

our sister publication, the triangle techjournal, has around 40,000 visits a month on its website, so advertisers can potentially reach as many as 60,000 impressions a month through both websites.

we also send out an online newsletter every week which is received by over 2,300 individual subscribers for a total of 8,000 impressions a month alone through e-mail.

triangle techjournal readership is now well over 20,000 readers a month for the newspaper print edition, in addition to viewers on the website.

rtp-tv and techjournal media properties reach literally hundreds of thousands of tech viewers/readers a year.

:what about your networking events?

rtp-tv sponsors the techjournal deckparty events which have drawn up to 900+ technology, biotech, and other executives to mix and mingle.

these great events are held in durham at the historic american tobacco district, which is comprised of beautiful old warehouses that have been converted into premium office and meeting spaces.

the deckparties are the "talk of the tech community" and the largest tech "networking only" events in north carolina.  we can also guarantee they are the only events to ever have had a segway scooter, helicopter, and ferrari all at one event.

for more information on the deckparty and bio- networking events, please visit the deckparty website.

:do you have video services?

yes!  we can help put your existing video online through our video encoding service.  we will also be glad to tape your 15 minute or less video (if it does not require editing) if you are located here in the triangle.  click here for details.

while we normally do not edit videos or offer major corporate video services, we are happy to recommend some high quality companies that do, so please call us!

:who is the voice of rtp-tv?

the voice of rtp and our biotech channel is none other than jay shapiro, a senior research triangle technical writer, who now has his own voice-over company known as "words & pictures of raleigh, llc".

call jay if you need a deep clear voice for your projects and videos or better yet, check out his website here.  jay is the best and a consummate professional in all of his work!

:thanks for watching

we have to say that without our loyal viewers' support, we wouldn't be here.

our viewers are among the best, brightest, and most technologically proficient in the world.  thanks again for watching and for all of your support!
